Werewolf by Night is a Marvel Comics character with two primary incarnations: Jack Russell and Jake Gomez. Jack Russell, the original Werewolf by Night, debuted in 1972. He's the descendant of Grigori Russoff, a man cursed with lycanthropy centuries ago. This curse is triggered when Jack reaches adulthood, transforming him into a werewolf during the full moon, and with some control and mental prep work on the two nights surrounding the full moon as well.
As a werewolf, Jack possesses enhanced strength, speed, agility, and senses. He is often tormented by his transformations, struggling to control his animalistic urges and protect those around him. He frequently finds himself battling supernatural threats. Though he is most commonly known for his 1970s series, he does have a connection with other classic Marvel monsters like Blade.
Jake Gomez, a teenager from an Arizona Hopi reservation, is a more recent iteration introduced in 2020. His lycanthropy is also hereditary, linked to his Hopi ancestry. His transformation is triggered by anger and stress, and his powers and abilities are more closely tied to his cultural heritage. Jake fights to protect his community while wrestling with the responsibilities that the form entails.
